Pastor’s Perspective – May 2025
Living a resurrection life
A few observations about post-Easter faithfulness.
The resurrection is not just “life insurance.” Jesus didn’t die just so that you can go to heaven. While the death and resurrection of Jesus does show us the first fruits of eternity in Jesus Christ, and while our entry into the Kingdom of God is only available by the blood of Jesus; the body of Christ remains on earth (as it is in heaven).
The body of Christ is now represented in the Church in the world. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He conferred to the Church His mandate to share the gospel of the Kingdom of God with the world. The book of Acts shows us the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit in the years following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven.
The Church has for two thousand years affirmed that while Jesus is on the throne in heaven, His Church is still working through the power of the Holy Spirit to do the will of God on earth (as it is done in heaven).
The Church acts to serve King Jesus and share the fruits of His Kingdom in and with the world. Peter refers to us as standing stones, referring to the ancient OT monuments to the miracles of God that dotted the landscape of Israel. As standing stones, we are living examples of the miraculous power of God in the world. Our very presence is intended to remind the world of the works of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Too frequently the Church disappears from the world in the face of danger and tribulation. Too often we seek to hide from our mandate and the blessings of being yoked with Jesus in ministry and proclamation. Too many Christians are so secure in their faith, that they have stopped pursuing God in their lives.
Let me make it clear, I am not asking you to doubt your faith or surrender your security in Christ. I am asking you to pursue Jesus in your life. To walk with God through the power of the Holy Spirit and to reflect His glory in all that you do.
This means worshipping regularly, praying with other believers, and studying God’s word in your daily devotions. It means being good and doing good in your local communities and in the daily struggles of your family. It means loving your spouse as Jesus loved the Church and sharing God’s received grace by forgiving those who have injured and sinned against you.
No matter how much I yearn for the peace of Heaven, I am reminded that our work on earth is not yet complete. Our resurrection life calls us to love God and our neighbors. To forgive seventy times seven. And to pursue holiness in name and power of the Triune God.
As Paul tells us, we have been bought with a price and ransomed for a purpose.
As we continue in Easter joy, let us pursue the work and will of God on earth, so that the glory of God can fill the nations and shine through out the earth. Jesus is risen! The Church has been filled with Holy Spirit! A new day has dawned, and the world is ready to see Jesus. Show His love and share His presence.
