Pentecost Sunday – May 24, 2026

Fifty days after the Jewish Passover, the people of God celebrate Pentecost – otherwise known as the festival of weeks or Shavuot. It was on that day that the early followers, friends, and family of Jesus were gathered in an Upper Room in Jerusalem.

As they were praying the Holy Spirit descended from heaven as a mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire and alit upon the early church. Once again God’s timing seemed to follow the ancient feast days of Judaism and reframed them for the sake of the gospel.

The Jewish Church was transformed by the Holy Spirit. The same God that transformed the cowardly Gideon in a mighty warrior also changed the Galilean Jews into powerful men and women of God. The gift of the Holy Spirit began the birth of the Church.

We will celebrate the birthday of the Church on May 24 at our morning worship service (10:00 am).  During the service we will also celebrate the successful financial campaign that has seeded the future of First Baptist Church in the sacrificial gifts of today.

We are blessed to be a part of a long line of Holy Spirit filled men and women. Christian believers who trust in the Lord and lean on God’s understanding alone.  God is good and the presence of the Holy Spirit helps us to show the world Jesus Christ in our actions and communicate the gospel by our words.

Come join us as the work of God continues at First Baptist Church.
