IMPRINTS FROM HOLY WEEK & EASTER

. . .Seeing the sunrise from my study at home as it rose up over the church building on Easter morning.

. . .The joy of baptizing seven young people in our early worship service. Two of those I baptized I had also dedicated when they were infants.

. . .The support of family members who were present to witness the baptism.

. . .The warmest water of any baptism I have had.

. . .The number of church members who attended both worship services.

. . .The largest early service we have ever had - 131. (317 attended the second service).

. . .The dedication of our chancel choir. They rehearsed on Monday and Thursday, sang three anthems at Thursday nights service and sang for both the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. service on Easter.

. . .The Diaconate members who served communion on Maundy Thursday, assisted in the baptismal service at the 8:15 a.m. Easter service, served communion at the 10:30 a.m. Easter service, then delivered flowers to our shut-ins.

. . .Extending the Right Hand of Fellowship to new members at the 10:30 a.m. Easter service.

. . .The men who cut the lawn between rain showers so it would look perfect for Easter.

. . .The profusion of spring flowers in bloom on our campus.

. . .The number of people (97) who attended our Maundy Thursday service in spite of torrential rain which lasted most of the day.

. . .A severe leak in the narthex that developed because of all the rain on Maundy Thursday.

. . .A member of the choir who postponed needed surgery so she could sing on Easter Sunday.

. . .Missing Mildred Stephens, Lois Smith and Alda Haddad, all hospitalized through the Easter Season.

. . .Gratitude for a wonderful staff who worked extra hard.

. . .The Easter banners created by our children and displayed in the foyer.

. . .A wonderful dinner at home with my wife, son and daughter after the worship services.

God, I thank you for giving us one of the best Easters ever at First Baptist. Help us now to maintain that sense of gratitude through the weeks and months ahead and to live our lives in the power, mystery and love of Christ's resurrection. And quickly bring back to us Mildred, Lois and Alda and all those who were away this Easter. In the name of the risen Christ we pray. Amen.
