From the Pastor
A Lenten Prayer
God, as this season of Lent begins
Help us not forget those for whom this winter has been long and lonely.
Help us not forget those who are no longer able to attend or participate
in worship.
Help us not forget those left homeless In El Salvador and India.
Help us not forget those facing illness From which there is no cure.
Help us not forget those who mourn
The loss of someone close to them.
Help us not forget those who in response
Have no faith left.
Help us not forget those angry with You
Those embittered because of life
And what it has done to them or those they love.
God, in our not forgetting
Help us not to become callous
And respond coldly or not at all.
Keep us from feeling the weight of so much sorrow
We as well succumb to a loss of faith or anger with You.
God, whatever the circumstance
Wherever life leads help us always hear, "Thou art with
me."
And by that awareness be a presence to those in need.
Help us be available Help us be willing to be available.
Help us trust Even when reasons for trust are not evident.
Help us center ourselves in Your love
And, daily, share Your love through our lives.
God, make us a blessing to others
Not another burden to be endured by those already burdened.
And even in the midst of our own adversity
May our complaints be few and our praises many.
Even when events do not go our way
May we rely upon you to lead the Way.
And when it comes the time, God,
We are the one in stress, the one in need.
Help us to receive the one You send us
And accept the support you give us in the presence of another.
During this season of Lent, God
Teach us about faith and community.
Teach us about holding hands
And being held in the palm of Your hand.
Teach us about being in the valley of the shadow of death
And finding there a table prepared for us.
And at the end confessing
"Surely goodness and mercy has followed me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of The Lord Forever."
Amen.
