Sanctuary Remodeling
Work Began June 4, 2001
June 3, 2001 was our last Sunday in the sanctuary. June 4 the remodeling
began. Ceilings came down, new carpet was laid and a brand new sound system
was installed. On the Holland/Perrysburg side of the building, the congregation will see
the stained glass window pictured below that has been hidden for twenty
years (read more about it below):

Here is an artist's rendering of
how the sanctuary now looks:
Rose Window Made Visible
For twenty years a circular, stained glass window in the sanctuary has remained invisible behind the ceiling of the overflow. That
has changed! The summer 2001 renovation work included the removal of the ceiling in the overflow.
The window is in the same design as the stained glass in the chancel area, except it is round and in the middle features a dove, the symbol of The Holy Spirit. It is appropriate that this dove be visible to us reminding us of the Holy Spirit's presence within us and of the fact that while First Baptist Church in its history has been located in three different areas of the city, it is the Spirit that guides and it is the Spirit that makes us the church.
