Children's Boredom Buster Night March 12

ALL KIDS!  This one is for YOU!  It’s a “Boredom Buster Night” on Friday, March 12 from 7 to 9 PM.  It is FREE for all children from 3 years old to 5th grade.  You're invited to an evening of games, food and fun at First Baptist.  The evening will include a special showing of the new VeggieTales movie “Pistachio: The Little Boy That Woodn’t” with movie snacks (popcorn, of course) and a whole lot more!  This event created and sponsored by our FBC Youth.

Youth Lock In March 12

It's time for a lock-in!  Our FBC Youth will hold our first lock-in of the year on March 12 at 9 PM (following the Boredom Buster evening our youth are conducting for the children).  Read all about it on our FBC Youth page.

Mission Parent & Youth Meeting March 14

We are holding a very important parent and youth informational meeting on March 14 at 1 PM in Fellowship Hall at the church concerning our Mission to Appalachia, July 18 to 25, 2010.  In this meeting we will provide the trip itinerary, requirements, fund raising plans and more.  Some of this information can already be found here on our website.  There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.  If your youth is even curious about this trip, we ask that you attend.  This meeting is a prerequisite to go on the trip.  If you have a prior commitment, please contact Scott Weaver personally so that a time can set up to meet and discuss the trip and our plans.  We also have a letter that went out to parents regarding the trip and that can be found HERE.  We have a web page devoted to our mission trip and that can be found HERE.

Jackie Frisch to Speak at FBC March 16

Jackie Frisch, our hometown "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" mom will speak at First Baptist on March 16 at 7:30 PM.  This is an all-church event and a great chance to bring a friend!  Jackie will bring us more "behind the scenes" details about the show that changed their lives and about the role God plays in their family.  Hear the latest news on the Frisch family and how their lives are touching the work in Haiti following the earthquake.  Ask those questions you always wanted to ask but never had the chance! You won't want to miss this special night sponsored by Hilary Club.

VBS Volunteers Needed

It's hard to believe, but it is all ready time to start planning for this summer's Vacation Bible School (VBS) program.  We are looking for volunteers to help us out in all areas.  This includes volunteers, teachers, guides or anyone else who would like to take part.  If you are interested, please see any member of our Spiritual Development TEAM or Pastor Scott.  This year's theme is "Hero Headquarters" where we find out about those "unnamed heroes" from the Bible and how we can all be heroes for God.  Come and join the fun as we look forward to VBS each evening from August 1 to 5.

We Need Recipes!

As one of our major fundraisers for this summer’s youth Mission to Appalachia, our youth are creating a First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo recipe book.  We are now collecting recipes but we need your help!  Download a recipe submission form HERE.  You may also pick up submission forms in the church office.  It is important that you use the form so that we have everything in the proper format for our books.  This spring we will feature a special “Recipe Book Potluck” where everyone will have the opportunity to sample creations from the new cookbook.  Start submitting your recipes now!  There is no limit to the number of recipes you may turn in.  Thank you for your support!

First Baptist Responds to Haiti Earthquake

Most of us cannot interrupt our lives and rush to near and distant lands in times of disasters and emergencies; however, through One Great Hour of Sharing and material goods we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of so many who have lost everything.  ISOH-IMPACT, a disaster relief organization located in Waterville (and supported by Outreach), has teams on the ground and has been collecting and shipping goods since the earthquake struck.  A “needs list” can be found at the conclusion of this article.   A box has been placed in the Narthex marked “Haiti Relief” to receive items.  Monetary contributions may be given through One Great Hour of Sharing with the check made out to First Baptist Church, make sure to include a notation for Haiti. God calls us to care for our brothers and sisters and this is a time when we can answer His call through our gifts -- no matter how small.

Youth Mission to Appalachia

Our youth and leaders will travel to the Appalachian mountains as representatives of First Baptist for a mission work trip from July 18 to 25.  We will join with the West Virginia Baptist Association's "Brother's Keeper" ministry for one week of home maintenance, repairs and construction in rural areas of Jackson County, West Virginia.  The goal of the trip to give our youth a new perspective on the Christian ideals of servanthood through giving of oneself.  In the next few months, you will hear much more about the details of the trip.  Keep up with everything by clicking over to the Mission to Appalachia page on the youth website.
