Lenten Season at First Baptist
As Advent is to Christmas so Lent is to Easter. It is a season of preparation. Lent perhaps is more subdued, more reflective, more internal but the message at the end of it is the greatest proclamation in the world, “Christ Is Risen!” The season of Lent prepares us for the hearing of that proclamation. It is a way of opening up our heart, making room in our mind, that nothing can stand in the way of our celebration on Easter.

Lenten Season Wednesday Nights
From February 13 to March 19, 2008 our Wednesday schedule has changed:
6:00 pm Lenten Dinner
6:30 pm Night Light Praise & Worship Service
7:00 pm Night Light Break Out Sessions ~ for all ages
7:30 pm Chancel Choir

 Holy Week

Palm Sunday - March 16, 2008
Sunday School at 9:15 AM and Worship at 10:30 AM

Palm branches are given to everyone as we commemorate Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem.
It is the beginning of the final end in which Christ takes upon Himself the sins of the world.

The Lord's Supper Diorama Can Be Found in Our Church Narthex

Final Lenten Dinner - March 19, 2008

Maundy Thursday - March 20, 2008
7:00 PM

We gather at 7 PM to participate in a service commemorating the Last Supper of Christ. As a part of this service, our children and youth will debut the original production “Draw Me a Picture of Love.” Scott Bellavia, Kaitlin Gerber and Shannon Spencer are directing our children and youth in a series of vignettes presenting contemporary stories about the meaning of real love. Interspersed with the presentation will be the sharing of communion, special music by our Chancel Choir and the presentation of the passion story through Scripture.

Good Friday - March 21, 2008

Throughout Jesus’ life there were those times he went off by himself to spend some time alone with God. On Good Friday, the day we in faith feel observance we remember the crucifixion of our Lord, the sanctuary of our church will be open from 9 AM to 3 PM for private prayer and reflection. In the quiet somberness of this unadorned room except for the dropped cross and the linen table cloth and chalice on the communion table we invite you to spend time apart with God.

You might use the time to simply sit for ten or fifteen minutes, or to read the passion narratives from the Gospels, or to pray for those who have been victimized or marginalized by the sins of the world. It is a time apart, a time spent in silence, a time with God.

Soup and Salad Good Friday Luncheon

A Soup and Salad luncheon will be served between 12:00 and 1:00 PM.  It is a simple meal in which we gather around tables in the fellowship hall.  A brief devotional service is held in homage to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  No reservations are necessary. The time spent together will be no longer than an hour, mindful of those who might be coming from work.

Holy Saturday - March 22, 2008 - 8:30 AM

We wait.
In our waiting we gather together for breakfast at the church in the same manner as the early disciples might have met together.  Our All Church Breakfast is sponsored by the Men's Fellowship (click for details).  We share a part of this day together, the day of waiting between Good Friday and Easter.

Easter Sunday - March 23, 2008

No other day of the year, not even Christmas Eve, centers in the church and attendance at worship as much as what Easter does. Join us as we proclaim, "Christ the Lord is Risen!"

Sunday School, 9:15 AM
Worship Service, 10:30
AM

“What a faith! What a hope! What a love! . . . Easter brings the awareness that God is present even when his presence is not directly noticed. Easter brings the good news that, although things seem to get worse in the world, the Evil One has already been overcome.”     Henri J.M. Nouwen

Hallelujah - Christ has Risen!
