It's a crazy train trip in the 1970s
as our cast takes us from San Francisco to Chicago. Shenanigans of the
dastardly sort set upon our cast as they travel the rails and have to solve
a mystery while resolving their "final destination."
This year's production is directed by Shannon Spencer based on a concept by
our producer Mark Suffron and written by Scott Weaver and features our FBC
Players: Ralph Pearsall as Vendel Venny; Mark Suffron as
Richard E. Mann; Alex Suffron as the Bodyguard; Joanna Weaver
as Twyla Mann-Lee; Barry Gray as Jimbo Mann-Lee; Nathan Pelland
as JT Thurlow; Mckenzie Limes-Weaver as Ally Thurlow; Laura
Logan-Beadle as Mitzy Thurlow; Nancy Pearsall as Adelaide Thurlow; Scott Weaver as Mathias Dunn;
Tommy Logan as ZZ (Arziel) Klossbury; Cale McClure as Moonjava
Willow; Shannon Spencer as Strawberry Willow; Tierney McClure
as Breezy Willow and Lindsay Brooks as Paisley Willow.
We have many
opportunities for volunteers! We need you! Contact Shannon Spencer, Scott
Weaver, Mark Suffron or Becky Spencer if you would like to help out . . .
then, pull out those bell bottoms, put up the disco ball and get set for the
"Curse of the Disco Diamond." |

We have statistics! A total of 223 individuals attended our show. There were 41 volunteers involved in the cast, finding props, writing
news releases, promoting the program, waiting tables, clearing and setting tables for the next dinner, seating guests, singing, producing practice CD’s, helping in the kitchen, sending email messages to the cast, keeping the FBCOGT web site current with dinner theater news, emptying the trash, constructing the set, writing and editing the script, directing, consulting on the bridge game, writing music, videotaping, selling tickets, coordinating the income and expenses, lay-out and printing of the posters and programs, selecting and developing the costumes, making the table decorations, selecting the menus, preparing the food, purchasing paper products and ice, hosting the cast party and leading the cast in prayer.
Volunteers spent anywhere from 4 hours (wait staff) to 65 hours (cast members) to 150 + hours
(director / writer) to make this dinner theater a reality and success.
While this event is primarily an outreach program, we do watch the finances and hope to have surplus funds to support other programs of the Music, Drama and Art Board as well as seed money for next year’s dinner theater. After the bills are paid, there will be about $800 to fund other efforts of the board.
Thank you to those involved! If others are interested in future productions, please contact Becky Spencer.

Dinner
Theater Details
We
held our annual dinner theater production June 4 to 8, 2003. This year
we presented the original play "Selling Guido of Toledo". It was a fascinating, historically inaccurate presentation of an erroneous
tale.
In honor of the
First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo's 150 Year Anniversary, our story
took place during the late 1800s in the fair city of Toledo, Ohio. We
followed the travails of Mayor Guido Marx as he ran for re-election. He
was
challenged by the formidable Samuel "Golden Rule" Jones. Mayor
Marx decided to bring in Adison Whitlock, a bigwig from New York, to
energize his campaign. Instead, all Adison brought was trouble. Guido faced many obstacles including the wrath of the Toledo women who wanted the
right to vote, a dead body, a disobedient daughter, Adison's socialite
wife, a dim but suspicious Chief of Police and frogs.
We hope you had a
chance to enjoy an evening of drama, mystery, music, comedy and more!

made this another wonderful program.

FBC Players - 2001 Edition
|
This was the story
of the wedding of Michael and Lisa Lombardy. As it began, we met
Alphonso (Scott Weaver), the high-strung "wedding
coordinator." He was attempting to prepare for the wedding and
reception. We met the groom, Michael (Mark Suffron); Lisa, his
bride-to-be (Shannon); the Maid of Honor (Meghan Bryson); Michael's
troublesome "little" cousin, Ronnie (Bob Quigley); the bride's
father (Les Sharrit) and the groom's mother Marge (Becky Spencer). As things
progressed, one problem after another arose - only to be answered by
Alphonso with "there are no such things as problems, only
solutions."
Finally, after
much acrimony among the characters, the ceremony was held. After the
ceremony, the reception began but got off to a very bad start when the
mother of the groom was found dead during the garter toss. According
to Alphonso, this was just a "minor setback" and advised everyone
to continue on with the party.
Continue they did
- that was until the opening of the presents when the deceased sister, Aunt
Madge (Linda
Stockner) arrived to find that her sister had been murdered. She was
on a mission to discover the killer - which she did! In a
dramatic closing scene, the killer was revealed and the characters' lives
changed forever - to much comic effect. A fascinating conclusion to a
highly enjoyable play!

"If
the Good Lord's Willing
and the Creek Don't Rise"
June 14, 15 and 16, 2000
This was the story of an eccentric old man and his nagging
but well-meaning daughter and her attempt to institutionalize her
father. Despite the negative subject, it was a very upbeat production
shining the light on the positive side of life.
|

FBC Players - 2000 Edition
|
The play was centered at the home of William Joseph
Babcock ("Doc" - played by Mark Suffron) and featured a roving
cast of characters dropping in unannounced. These included a couple of
students practicing lines from "Romeo and Juliet" (Meghan Bryson
and Craig Campbell), their teacher (Scott Weaver), a good friend (Judy
Bryson) and the crazy Maxine McCallister (Nancy Pearsall - are you
scratching yourself just remembering this?).
Doc's daughter Charlotte (Becky Spencer), hires Gerald, a
lawyer (David Clarke), in an attempt to take control of her father's
care. Gerald in turn hires a psychologist (Linda Stockner) who is
suddenly thrust into the crazy world that is Doc's life.
In the end, the battle turns to a courtroom scene with a
surprising climax that brings the characters together (except maybe
Charlotte and Gerald). A fitting end for a fine production! To

If you missed this presentation, don't be left out next
time! The FBC Drama Department is always looking for new talent to add
to our fine stable of actors. Contact the church office for more info!
